Volleyball Advances to Silver Bracket Championship Match

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team posted a 3-1 (25-18, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21) victory over top-seeded Westfield State University in the semifinal round of the Hall of Fame Invitational at Mount Holyoke College on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears, who are the fourth seed in the silver bracket, will take on Union College in the silver bracket championship match later on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 PM.  The third-seeded Dutchwomen defeated WPI, 3-2, in their semifinal match.

Junior middle hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.) paced Bridgewater with 16 kills, three solo blocks and one ace, while senior outside hitter Julie Clerc (Acushnet, Mass.) added nine kills, 15 digs and a pair of aces.

Senior outside hitter Kristina Campbell (Taunton, Mass.) tallied ten kills, six digs, two blocks and two aces and freshman setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) dished out 42 assists. 

Also playing well for the Bears were senior outside hitter Natalie Cohen (Marstons Mills, Mass.) and freshman middle hitter Tayler Beck (Marion, Mass.).  Cohen added seven kills, 11 digs, four aces and a block, while Beck notched nine kills.  All told, Bridgewater recorded nine aces in the match.
