Volleyball Falls to Salve Regina, 3-1

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Salve Regina University women's volleyball team posted a 3-1 victory over host Bridgewater State University on Friday night at the Tinsley Center in Bridgewater.

The visiting Seahawks won the first set, 25-16, and then came back from an 18-9 deficit to capture the second set, 25-23.  Bridgewater stayed alive with a 25-23 triumph in the third set, but Salve finished off the Bears, 25-18 in set four.

Junior middle hitter Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) paced the Seahawks with 13 kills, ten digs and four blocks (two solo).  Freshman setter Kelsey Stafstrom (Westford, Mass.) added 26 assists, while sophomore libero Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded 22 digs.

Freshman setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) led Bridgewater State with 40 assists, three kills, two blocks and two aces.  Junior middle hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.) added 16 kills and a solo block, while senior outside hitter Kristina Campbell (Taunton, Mass.) finished with six kills, two blocks and two aces.

The Bears (7-9) will host MASCAC foe Salem State University on Tuesday night at 6:00 PM, while Salve (9-12) travels to Regis College for a Commonwealth Coast Conference match on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM.
