SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 28-26, 25-14) decision to Westfield State University in the final match of the Tom Hay Invitational.

Earlier in the day, Bridgewater (6-8) lost to host Springfield College, 3-0.

Junior middle hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Bears who went 0-3 at the tournament.  DePina averaged 10 kills and 4.3 digs over the three matches and also notched four blocks and four aces.

In the loss to Westfield, DePina recorded eight kills, five digs, two blocks and one ace.  Senior outside hitter Julie Clerc (Acushnet, Mass.) paced the Bears with 10 kills and nine digs, while freshman setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) tallied 28 assists and eight digs, and freshman hitter Tayler Beck (Marion, Mass.) added nine kills.

Bridgewater will travel to MCLA on Monday for a two o'clock MASCAC match with the Trailblazers.
