Volleyball Downs Newbury College, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Senior outside hitter Julie Clerc (Acushnet, Mass.) recorded a match high nine kills and an impressive .818 hitting percentage to lead the Bridgewater State University volleyball team to a 3-0 non-conference win over visiting Newbury College on Monday evening.

Bridgewater won by set scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-17 to improve to 5-4 on the season.  The Bears have won four of their last five matches.  Newbury falls to 3-7 as the Nighthawks have dropped seven of their last eight.

The Bears held the edge in play throughout the match, but were also victimized by 12 service errors.

BSU freshman setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) registered a match-high 24 assists, while junior middle hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.) chipped in with seven kills, five digs and four blocks (three solo).

Bridgewater travels to Framingham State University on Thursday night (7:00 PM) for a key Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match with the Rams.  Newbury travels to Southern Vermont College on Saturday to take on the Mountaineers in a New England Collegiate Conference showdown.
