BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's volleyball team opened Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play with a 3-0 (25-5, 25-6, 25-9) victory over visiting Mass. Maritime Academy on Wednesday night in Bridgewater.

Junior middle hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.) paced the Bears (2-3, 1-0 MASCAC) with nine kills and five aces.  Senior outside hitter Kristina Campbell (Taunton, Mass.) added seven kills and four digs while freshman setter Melanie Appleman (Hyannis, Mass.) registered 13 assists.

Freshman outsider hitter Kelly Lyons (Pocasset, Mass.) notched a pair of kills and three aces for Mass. Maritime (0-8, 0-1 MASCAC).  The Buccaneers also received six digs from sophomore middle hitter Suzanne Marino (Kings Park, N.Y.).

Bridgewater State travels to Wheaton College on Saturday for a tri-match with Wheaton and Mount Holyoke College.  Mass. Maritime heads to scenic Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday to take on Maritime College (NY) at 6:00 PM.
