PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Bridgewater State junior middle hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Bears wrapped up day two of the Johnson & Wales Women's Volleyball Invitational with a pair of losses to Wheaton College and Connecticut College.
Bridgewater wrapped up the tournament with a 1-3 record to finish in fifth place.
DePina finished with 43 kills in BSU's four matches over the weekend including 11 in a 3-1 loss to Wheaton and nine in a 3-0 defeat against Conn. College on Saturday.
Junior Amy Newman (Los Angeles, Calif.) was
named the Most Valuable Player of the invitational after leading
Conn. College to a first place finish.
Connecticut College was a perfect 4-0 for the weekend while host
Johnson & Wales notched a second place finish after finishing
the two day event with a 3-1 record. Senior Catherine
Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) earned All-Tournament
accolades for JWU.
