SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The 2009 Volleyball Hall of Fame Women's Invitational concluded today, with Middlebury College winning the silver bracket. Bridgewater State College finished in fourth place in the silver bracket after dropping a pair of matches this afternoon.
Middlebury held on for a 3-2 win over Bowdoin College in the Silver Bracket's championship match. The Panthers were paced by Lauren Barrett, who earned Most Valuable Player honors. In the third place contest, Westfield State College downed Bridgewater State College 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-19). Earlier in the day, BSC dropped a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-17) decision to Bowdoin.
In the loss to Bowdoin, junior outside hitter Julie Clerc (Acushnet, MA) paced the Bears with 11 kills. Junior setter Natalie Cohen (Marstons Mills, MA) recorded 21 assists, while senior libero Brianne Cobb (New Bedford, MA) added 20 digs.
Clerc finished with 11 kills and 12 digs in the loss to Westfield. Cohen tallied 26 assists, 16 digs and a solo block, and sophomore middle hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) notched eight kills against the Owls.
