Volleyball Improves to 5-0 in the MASCAC with Win over Salem

SALEM, Mass. -- The Salem State Lady Vikings dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bridgewater State Bears in a Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) game on Tuesday night. The Lady Vikings won the first game, 25-23, before being swept three straight, 25-10, 26-24, and 25-17.

Bridgewater State improves to 6-15 overall and remains unbeaten in conference play at 5-0.  The Bears are tied for first place in the MASCAC along with Westfield State. The two teams will meet next Tuesday in Bridgewater with the conference regular season title on the line.  Salem State falls to 6-20 and 1-3 in the MASCAC.

Natalie Cohen (Marston Mills, MA) led Bridgewater State with 46 assists. The Bears also received excellent play from Julie Clerc  (Acushnet, MA) who finished with 14 kills, 20 digs and three aces. Brianne Cobb (New Bedford, MA) added 28 digs, while Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) notched 15 kills and three solo blocks. 

Jazmin Barrows (New Bedford, MA) paced the Lady Vikings with 11 assists and 12 digs. Katie McKenna (Beverly, MA) also had a good game with four kills and 15 digs.

Brittany Roscoe (Lowell, Ma) had eight digs for the Lady Vikings, who have dropped seven of their past eight matches. 

Salem State will host Mount Ida College on Thursday, October 22 at 6:00 PM.  Bridgewater will compete in the Hall of Fame Invitational hosted by Smith College and Mount Holyoke College on Friday and Saturday.
