Volleyball Posts 3-0 MASCAC Win over MCLA

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Freshman setter Jennifer Shaw (Brockton, MA) tallied a career-high 25 assists to go along with five digs to lead the Bridgewater State College volleyball team to a 3-0 MASCAC win over MCLA this afternoon at the Tinsley Center in Bridgewater.

With the win, Bridgewater improves to 5-13 on the season.  The Bears also remain undefeated in conference play with a 4-0 MASCAC mark.  MCLA falls to 10-7 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Bridgewater State breezed to a 25-12 win in the opening set, but were met with some good opposition from the visiting Trailblazers over the final two games.  MCLA led throughout most of the second set before BSC battled back to take command of the match with a 25-21 victory.  The Bears secured the key conference win with a 25-20 decision in the final game.

Junior outside hitter Julie Clerc (Acushnet, MA) added ten kills as well as seven digs and two aces. The Bears also received a strong performance from sophomore outside hitter Ashley Gelinas (New Bedford, MA) who chipped in with seven kills and five digs, while also recording a .375 hitting percentage.

The Trailblazers were led by sophomore middle hitter Kayla Bromback (Lee, MA) who notched six kills and three blocks. Junior libero Amanda Lane (Swansea, MA) contributed 16 digs, while senior setter Marta Brown (Glen Falls, NY) added 17 assists.

Bridgewater State will compete in the Wellesley Invitational this upcoming weekend, while MCLA will host a non-conference match with Elms College on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
