Volleyball Places Seventh at Tufts Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at the Tufts University Invitational as the Bears finished in seventh place at the two-day event. Bridgewater State bowed to Union College, three games to one, and then completed the invitational with a 3-1 loss to Hiram College.

With the two losses, Bridgewater finished 0-4 at the eight-team invitational tournament.  SUNY  Potsdam also went 0-4, but BSC won the tie-breaker due to a 3-12 record in sets compared to 0-12 for Potsdam.  The Bears are now 3-13 overall on the season as they have dropped eight of their last nine matches.

Junior outside hitter Julier Clerc (Acushnet, MA) tallied 31 kills in BSC's two matches including a season-high 21 in the loss to Union.  Clerc also recorded 21 digs and a pair of blocks.

Sophomore outside hitter Ashley Gelinas (New Bedford, MA) added 22 kills and three blocks, while sophomore middle hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) notched 19 kills and seven blocks.

Junior setter Natalie Cohen (Marstons Mills, MA) posted 51 assists and 21 digs, and senior libero Brianne Cobb (New Bedford, MA) added 53 digs.
