Volleyball Swept in Tri-Match with Wheaton, Coast Guard

NORTON, Mass.  - The Bridgewater State College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches in a non-conference tri-miatch with Wheaton College and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. 

The Bears bowed to Coast Guard 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-21) and then battled to a tough 3-2 loss (21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 15-8)  to host Wheaton.

In the loss to Coast Guard, sophomore middle hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) paced Bridgewater State with 11 kills, while junior outside hitter Julie Clerc (Acushnet, MA) added seven kills.  Freshman setter Jennifer Shaw (Brockton, MA) and junior Natalie Cohen (Marstons Mills, MA) combined for 21 assists.

In the tough 3-2 setback to Wheaton, Clerc notched 18 kills and two blocks while DePina added 12 kills and two blocks.  Cohen finished with 29 assists and senior libero Brianne Cobb (New Bedford, MA) chipped in with 22 digs.

The Bears will head to the MIT Invitational next weekend.
