Shannon Desmond Named Assistant Volleyball Coach

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Bridgewater State College Director of Athletics, John Harper, announced today that Shannon Desmond has been named as an assistant coach on the BSC volleyball coaching staff.

A 2008 graduate of Bridgewater State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work, Desmond was an outstanding volleyball player for the Bears for two seasons from 2005 to 2006.  She set the BSC single-season record for digs with 704 during the 2006 season.  She also matched the school single-game mark with 40 digs, accomplishing the feat twice during the 2006 campaign.  Despite playing just two seasons at Bridgewater, Desmond is third all-time in the BSC volleyball record books with 1,219 career digs.

The Bridgewater volleyball team posted a record of 48-27 during her career including a perfect 12-0 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) record.  The Bears captured both the MASCAC regular season and tournament titles in 2005 and 2006, and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament on both occasions as well.  In 2006, Shannon was selected t0 the All-MASCAC Second Team.

Desmond competed two seasons on the Western Connecticut State University volleyball team before transferring to Bridgewater prior to the 2005-2006 academic year.  She served as a student-assistant coach on the BSC volleyball team in 2007, and then coached freshman volleyball at North Quincy High School the following year.

Shannon is currently teaching at Clifford Marshall Elementary School in her hometown of Quincy.
