Volleyball Goes 1-2 at Hall of Fame Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College volleyball team went 1-2 at the Hall of Fame Invitational on Friday and Saturday.  The Bears picked up a 3-1 win over host Mount Holoke, but dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Wheaton College and Emerson College.

Sophomore outside hitter Julie Clerc (Acushnet, MA) was selected to the Silver Bracket All-Tournament Team for the Bears who placed 14th overall out of a field of 16 teams at the tournament.

Clerc tallied 30 kills, 12 aces and 27 digs in BSC's three matches.  She registered 12 kills, eight aces and 12 digs in the Bears win over Mount Holyoke. 

Sophomore setter Natalie Cohen (Marstons Mills, MA) finished with 73 assists over the weekend, while freshman outside hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) added 18 kills and eight blocks.

The Pride of Springfield defeated the Jumbos of Tufts University, 3-2, in a fitting Gold Bracket championship finals. The Pride were led by Tournament MVP Heather Lively. Finishing in second place was Tufts, followed by Wellesley University who defeated Amherst College, 3-2, to round out the tournament's top three finishers.

In the Silver Bracket, Middlebury College defeated Gordon College, 3-0, in the championship match. Lindsay Patterson of Middlebury was named the Silver Bracket's MVP. Wheaton College defeated Colby College, 3-0, to claim third place in the bracket.
