Volleyball Notches 3-0 MASCAC Win over Salem State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - On Senior Night at the Tinsley Center, the Bridgewater State College Bears knocked off visiting Salem State College, 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-12), in MASCAC volleyball action.

The Bears improve to 6-19 on the season and more importantly 4-1 in the MASCAC.  The win sets up a showdown with Westfield State next Tuesday night at 7 PM in Westfield.  The winner of the match will earn the top seed and host the conference tournament on November 8th.  Salem falls to 5-11 overall and 1-3 in MASCAC play.

BSC was led by freshman outside hitter Shelly DePina (New Bedford, MA) who tallied 10 kills and three blocks while sporting a .500 hitting percentage.  Junior outside hitter Alyssa Grimes (Acushnet, MA) added 12 kills, while sophomore setter Natalie Cohen (Marstons Mills, MA) finished with 29 assists.

Prior to the match, the Bears honored seniors Elsa Apostoli (Natick, MA) and Alexis Corazzini (Seekonk, MA). Corazzini tallied four digs and a pair of aces in the match, while Apostoli did not play as she is out for the season due to injury.

Bridgewater has won 21 straight matches versus the Lady Vikings dating back to the 1994 season.  The Bears are also 31-7 all-time versus the Lady Vikings since 1983. 

The Bears will compete in the Hall of Fame Invitational on Friday and Saturday.  BSC will take on Wheaton College on Friday night at 7 PM at Mount Holyoke College.  Salem travels to Mount Ida College on Thursday evening for a 6 PM match with the Mustangs.
