Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at MIT Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the MIT Invitational this evening in Cambridge, Mass. The Bears lost to host MIT, 3-0, and then to Bates College by the same 3-0 margin.

With the two losses, BSC falls to 3-9 overall on the season.

Sophomore setter Natalie Cohen (Marstons Mills, MA) tallied 13 assists and 6 digs in the loss to MIT, while junior Brianne Cobb (New Bedford, MA) and senior Alexis Corazzini (Seekonk, MA) added 10 digs and 9 digs respectively.  Bridgewater dropped the opening game of the match, 25-12, followed by scores of 25-18 and 25-7.

Sophomore outside hitter Julie Clerc (Acushnet, MA) registered 11 kills, 8 digs and 3 aces in the loss to Bates.  Cohen chipped in with 20 assists and 8 digs, while sophomore middle hitter Laura Babij (Montague, MA) and junior outside hitter Alyssa Grimes (Acushnet, MA) notched 8 kills and 7 kills respectively.  BSC was in contention throughout the match as the Bears lost the first game, 25-21, followed by scores of 25-23 and 27-25.

MIT, Springfield College, Connecticut College and Tufts University all won their respective pools to advance to the gold bracket. 

On Saturday in bronze bracket play, the Bears will take on Vassar College at 10 AM and Bowdoin College at 2.
