Volleyball Opens MASCAC Schedule with 3-0 Win over Bucs

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College volleyball team opened the MASCAC portion of their schedule with a 3-0 win (25-4, 25-5, 25-8) over Massachusetts Maritime Academy this evening at the Tinsley Center.

The Bears improve to 3-7 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.  Mass. Maritime falls to 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the MASCAC.  A BSC volleyball team has never lost a match to Mass. Maritime as the Bears are 29-0 all-time versus the Buccaneers since 1984.

Sophomore defensive specialist Marissa Pita (Hyannis, MA) paced the Bears with an impressive 10 aces.  Sophomore setter Natalie Cohen (Marstons Mills, MA) added 10 assists and 4 aces, while freshman Kelsey Andrade (Seekonk, MA) chipped in with 6 aces.  All told, BSC registered 31 aces in the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Victoria Presutti (Marshfield, MA) led the way for the Buccaneers with 3 kills, while freshman middle hitter Libby Buck (South Chatham, MA) added a pair of aces.

BSC will compete in the MIT Invitational on Friday and Saturday.  The Bears take on host MIT on Friday afternoon at 4 followed by a 6 o'clock match with Bates College.  Mass. Maritime heads to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday afternoon for a MASCAC tri-match with MCLA and host Worcester State College. The Buccaneers take on Worcester at noontime and MCLA at 2.
