Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches at JWU Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Bridgewater State College volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Johnson and Wales Invitational on Saturday evening.  The Bears picked up their first win of the season with a 3-1 victory over tournament champion Keene State College.

Bridgewater (1-6) also dropped a 3-1 decision to host Johnson & Wales University in their final match of the tournament.  BSC finished in sixth place at the tournament with a record of 1-3.

Sophomore outside hitter Julie Clerc (Acushnet, MA) and sophomore setter Natalie Cohen (Marstons Mills, MA) highlighted BSC's pair of matches. Clerc, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, registered 17 kills, 23 digs and 4 aces in the two matches.  Cohen tallied 58 assists on the day, including a career-high 41 assists in the win over Keene State.  She also notched 17 digs.

The win marked the first coaching victory at Bridgewater State for first year skipper Bob Roscoe.  It was also his first collegiate volleyball win since since 2002 when he was a co-head coach at Wheaton College.

The Bears are off until next Saturday when they take on Wheaton College and host Coast Guard Academy in a tri-match.
