Don Brown was named the assistant coach of the Bridgewater State cross country and track & field programs in August of 2023. He brings with him ten years of distance coaching experience.

 elped start the indoor track and field program at Martha's Vineyard and worked primarily with distance and middle distance runners. Don was responsible for pre-season and in-season training plans, strength training, spin bike workouts, etc..

As a believer in the power of a strong and positive team culture, he is most proud of his team’s work with the Unified Track and Field Team (Martha's Vineyard) in 2022. Perennially,  his teams are noted for their three main objectives: Show Up, Be Kind, and Work Hard.

While coaching at Martha's Vineyard Regional High School,  Coach Brown coached top five MIAA Division 5 athletes in the mile, 800m, 1000m, and two mile, as well as the 4 x 800 relay. He has helped athletes qualify for the New England Championship, New Balance Indoor Nationals (in the mile and 800), and the Nike Outdoor National Championships. Within the latter, he had athletes place in the top 10 in the Emerging Elite mile, compete in the 2000m steeplechase, and win the Emerging Elite 4x 800 meter relay in a time of 7:53.

Coach Brown has a USATF Level I coaching certificate as well as a USATF Level II Track and Field Coach Specilization Endurance certificate and a USATF Sport Specific Technical & Tactical Skills certificate. He is also certified in CPR/AED and first aid. He also holds a USATF Sports Physiology Certification and most recently completed training at the USATF Emerging Elite Coaches Camp, held at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California.

A native of Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts, Don is the owner and operator of NewLeaf Garden Design and Maintenance. He started the business in April of 2006.
