Women's Track & Field Places Fourth at SiIfen Invitational

NEW LONDON., Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field finished in fourth place on Saturday at the Silfen Invitational hosted by Connecticut College.

The Bears recorded 93 team points over the the two-day meet. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy won the team title with 133 points followed by host Conn. College (113 pts.) in second place and the University of New Haven (94 pts.) in third.

Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) captured the meet crown in the high jump with a leap of five feet, five inches (1.65m). Sands added a third-place showing in the long jump with a PR of 16 feet, 7.75 inches (5.07m).

Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) garnered top honors in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.38 second, and placed second in the 100-meter dash (12.57).

Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) posted the top performance in the 400-meter dash as she crosse the line in 58.04 seconds. Abrantes also checked in at third in the 200 (26.74).

Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) won the individual title in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.75 seconds. McDonough also finished fifth in the 100 (12.67) and sixth in the long jump (16'3.75"/4.97m).

Tristen Gomes (Middleboro, Mass.) placed fourth in the triple jump (35'3.25"/10.75m), fifth in the long jump (16'4.25"/4.98m) and seventh in the high jump (4'9.75"/1.47m).

Juliana Patrone (Wilmington, Mass.) and Charlie Katz (West Yarmouth, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' placewinners on Saturday. Patrone finished fourth in the high jump (4'11.75"/1.52m) while Katz placed fifth in the hammer throw with a PR of 130 feet, nine inches (39.86m).

The BSU outdoor track & field teams are back in action next week when the Bears compete on Friday and Saturday at the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by MIT.
