Gomes Leads Women's Track & Field at Corsair Classic

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Junior Tristen Gomes (Middleboro, Mass.) captured the meet title in two events lead the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team on Saturday at the Corsair Classic hosted by UMass Dartmouth.

Gomes placed first in the triple jump with leap of 35 feet, 1.75 inches (10.71m) and garnered top honors in the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 6.5 inches (5.04m).

Senior Juliana Patrone (Wilmington, Mass.) placed third in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 1.75 inches (1.57m) while junior Lily Valcovic (East Taunton, Mass.) placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:00.07. Graduate student Lisa Jaeger (Medfield, Mass.) also scored for the Bears as she finished fifth in the 10,000-meter run (48:09.14).

Senior Nicole Major (Andover, Mass.) and senior Charlie Katz (West Yarmouth, Mass.) added top ten performances. Major was ninth in both the 1,500-meter run (5:16.03) and the 800-meter run (2:41.25). Katz checked in at ninth in the hammer throw with a career-besrt toss of 115 feet, five inches (35.19m).

The Bears finished in eighth place in the team standings with 35 points. WPI won the meet title with 203 points followed by Springfield College (120 pts.) in second place and Westfield State University (93 pts.) in third.

The BSU outdoor track & field teams travel to Amherst College next Saturday for the Amherst Spring Fling.
