Sands Leads Women's Track & Field at NEICAAA Indoor Championships

BOSTON, Mass. -- Senior Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) garnered All-NEICAAA honors to lead the Bridgewater State University women's track & field team during day one of the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships held at The Track at New Balance.

Sands placed second in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 6.5 inches (1.69m).

Junior Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) advanced to Saturday's finals in the 400-meter dash. Abrantes posted a personal-best time of 57.20 seconds to place fourth in the preliminaries.

Sophomore Naomi Cass (Westport, Mass.) hit for a PR in the 5,000-meter run. Cass posted a time of 17:47.59 to finish tenth in the event.

Graduate student Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) checked in at 10th in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.60 seconds.

The Bears are tied for eighth place (8 pts.) in the team standings after day one of the two-day championship meet which features team from all three NCAA divisions in New England.

Day two of the NEICAAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will get underway tomorrow morning at ten.
