Four Bears Earns All-New England Honors to Lead Women’s Track & Field at DIII New Englands

BOSTON, Mass. -- Four members of the Bridgewater State University women's track & field team garnered All-New England status on Sunday at the Division III New England Indoor Track & Field Championships held at The Track at New Balance.

The top eight placewinners in each event at the DIII New England Championships garner All-New England honors.

Graduate student Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) placed second in the 60-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 8.77 seconds. She also finished fifth in the finals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.82 seconds.

McDonough is currently tied for 15th in all of Division III in the hurdles.

Graduate student Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) placed third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.40 seconds, and finished fourth in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 7.81 seconds.

Junior Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) checked in at fourth in the 200-meter dash and eighth in the 400-meter dash. Abrantes equaled her career-best in the 200 with a time of 25.48 seconds amd posted a time of 57.82 seconds in the 400.

Senior Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) tied for fifth in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 3.75 inches (1.61m).

Senior Juliana Patrone (Wilmington, Mass.) checked in with a 12th place finish in the high jump (5'1.25"/1,56m).

The Bears finished in ninth place in the team standings with 32.5 points.

Qualifying members of the BSU women's track & field team with compete on Friday and Saturday at the NEICAAA Indoor Track & Field Championships also held at The Track at New Balance. Select Bears may also compete at the Tufts Qualifying Meet on Saturday.
