McDonough Sets Long Jump Mark to Lead Women's Track & Field at Massasoit Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Graduate Student Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) set a school record in the long jump to lead the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team at the Massasoit Classic hosted by Springfield College.

McDonough won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 8.5 inches (5.40m) as she eclipsed Jayci Andrew's previous indoor mark of 17 feet, 6.75 inches (5.35) set back in 2017.

McDonough also captured top honors at the meet in the 60 meter hurdles with a finals time of 8.97 seconds (8.94 prelims). She added a second-place performance in the 60-meter dash with a finals time of 7.94 seconds.

Graduate Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) won the 60 with a finals time of 7.84 seconds and placed second in the 400-meter dash (59.91).

Junior Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) earned the meet title in the 400 with a time of 59.15 seconds and finished fourth in the finals of the 60 (7.98). Abrantes' time in the 60 was a PR.

Senior Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) outleaped the field in the high jump with a mark of five feet, 5.25 inches (1.66m). Classmate Juliana Patrone (Wilmington, Mass.) placed second in the high jump (5'1.5"/1.56m).

Junior Tristen Gomes (Middleboro, Mass.), competing in her first meet of the season, placed second in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 16 feet, 7.75 inches (5.07m).

The Bears' foursome of Abrantes, senior Nicole Major (Andover, Mass.), junior Kate Brown (Acushnet, Mass.) and senior Elisabeth Sweeney (Marshfield, Mass.) finished fourth in the 4x400-meter relay (4:30.69).

Brown also placed second in the 1,000-meter run (3:20.48).

Junior Ana Imrie (Arlington, Mass.) rounded out the Bears top five performers with a fifth place finish in the 600-meter run (1:58.09).

The Bears finished in third place at the meet with 115 points. Host Springfield won the meet with 208 points followed by Wheaton College (157 pts.) in second place.

In upcoming action, the BSU indoor track & field teams will compete next Saturday at the River Hawk Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell.

Notes: Abrantes is currently ranked 21st in all of Division III in the 400 while McDonough is ranked 24th in the long jump.
