Sands, Peterson, Andrews Lead Women’s Track & Field at NEICAAA Championships

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and junior Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.) earned All-New England honors to lead the Bridgewater State University women's track & field team during the opening day of the 2022 New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Bryant University.

Sands tied for second place and Peterson tied for sixth in the high jump as they each recorded a mark of five feet, five inches (1.65m).

Graduate student Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) finished fifth in the preliminaries of both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles as she was the top Division III student-athlete in each event. Andrews posted a time of 14.21 seconds in the 100 hurdles and a season-best time of 1:02.79 in the 400 hurdles as she advanced to Saturday's finals.

Andrews currently ranks 12th in all of Division III in the 400 hurdles.

The Bears are in 14th place (8.25 pts.) after day one of the two-day championship meet. URI leads the way with 28 points, while Quinnipiac and Maine are tied for second with 20 points.

Day two of the NEICAAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will get underway tomorrow morning at ten.
