Andrews Captures Pair of Hurdles Titles to Lead BSU Women’s Track & Field at DIII New Englands

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Graduate student Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) captured the New England title in both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles to lead the Bridgewater State University women' track & field team at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Williams College.

Andrews posted a finals and season-best time of 14.10 seconds in the 100 hurdles and a season-best time of 1:03.04 in the 400 hurdles. She is currently ranked seventh in all of Division III in the 100 hurdles and 12th in the 400 hurdles.

Junior Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) and sophomore Samila Adilas (Randolph, Mass.) also garnered All-New England honors in the hurdles for the Bears. McDonough placed fifth in the finals with a time of 14.70 seconds, while Adilas posted a career-best time of 15.13 seconds to finish seventh.

McDonough also earned All-New England accolades in the 100-meter dash with a finals time of 12.79 seconds, and ran a leg on the Bears' All-New England 4x100-meter relay team along with classmates Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.) and Madison Ashley (Freetown, Mass.), and freshman Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.). The foursome posted a time of 49.23 seconds to place sixth in the event.

Junior Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.) and sophomore Serenity Sands (East Bridgewater, Mass.) placed second and seventh, respectively, to earn All-New England honors in the high jump. Peterson posted a mark of five feet, 5.25 inches (1.66m), while Sands jumped five feet, 3.25 inches (1.61m).

The 4x800-meter relay squad featuring sophomore Nicole Major (Andover, Mass.), junior Julie Glavin (Weymouth, Mass.), senior Megan Leary (North Attleboro, Mass.) and junior Emma Rand (Salem, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' All-New England performers as the quartet placed eighth in the event with a time of 10:11.20.

Bridgewater State finished seventh in the team standings with 41.33 points. MIT won the New England title with 103 points, while WPI (85 pts.) and Tufts University (76 pts.) finished second and third, respectively.

Qualifying members of the BSU women's outdoor track & field team will compete next weekend at the NEICAAA Championships hosted by Bryant University.
