Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Captures MASCAC Title

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team captured the program's second straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) championship on Saturday at Swenson Field.

The MASCAC outdoor title marked the ninth in program history. Bridgewater also won outdoor conference championships in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2015 and 2021. The Bears tallied 276.5 points in the team standings to easily outdistance runner-up Westfield State University (136.5 pts.).

Bridgewater placed first in 15 events including all three relays.

Graduate student Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.), senior Ashley Garvey (Woburn, Mass.) and junior Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) each claimed a pair of MASCAC individual titles.

Andrews captured top honors in both the 100-meter hurdles (14.33) and 400-meter hurdles (1:04.32), while Garvey placed first in the discus throw (116'2"/35.42m) and hammer throw (133'1"/40.58m). McDonough tied Andrew's school record (2016) and in the long jump with a meet-best leap of 17 feet, 8.75 inches (5.40m), and added a first place showing in the 100-meter dash (12.43).

The Bears also received MASCAC Champion performances from junior Madison Ashley (Freetown, Mass.) in the 200-meter dash (25.54), freshman Kiara Abrantes (Somerset, Mass.) in the 400-meter dash (1:00.18), sophomore Nicole Major (Andover, Mass.) in the 800-meter run (2:25.07), junior Julie Glavin (Weymouth, Mass.) in the 1,500-meter run (4:59.04), junior Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.) in the high jump (5'3"/1.60m) and graduate student Alexa Wilson (Centerville, Mass.) in the pole vault (8'0"/2.44m).

Bridgewater State captured all three relay events. McDonough, junior Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.), Abrantes and Ashley placed first in the 4x100 (48.55), while Abrantes, junior Lily Marra (Lakeville, Mass.), junior Lindsey Golden (Mansfield, Mass.) and Andrews grabbed top honors in the 4x400 (4:09.64). Major, senior Megan Leary (North Attleboro, Mass.), Glavin and junior Emma Rand (Salem, Mass.) teamed up for a first-place finish in the 4x800 (10:28.74).

McDonough was the Bears' top scorer at the meet with 30.5 team points. She also placed second in the 100 hurdles (14.73).
