Women's Track & Field Competes at Springfield College Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team competed at the Springfield College Classic hosted by Springfield College on Saturday.

Senior Camille Hanna finished second and broke her own school record in the pole vault with a mark of ten feet, two inches (3.10m). Hanna eclipsed her previous mark of nine feet, eight inches (2.95m) set last week at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.

In the high jump, junior Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.) finished second in the meet with a leap of five feet, four inches (1.66m). Finishing in third, freshman Serenity Sands recorded a mark of five feet, 2.5 inches (1.60m).

Finishing in second in the 400-meter dash, junior Lily Marra crossed the line with a time of 1:02.83.

Senior Megan Leary was the second to cross the line in the 800-meter run with a final time of 2:04.27.

Junior Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.90 seconds.

Senior Megan Weatherbee (West Bridgewater, Mass.) placed second in both the shot put and hammer throw. Weatherbee recorded a mark of 31 feet, four inches (9.57m) in the shot put and 104 feet, six inches (31.86m) in the hammer throw.

A pair of BSU student athletes placed in the top three of the 100-meter hurdles. Graduate student Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) finished second in the event with a time of 15.01 seconds while junior Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) placed third after crossing the line at 15.32 seconds. 

In the 1,500-meter run, sophomore Nicole Major (Andover, Mass.) placed third with a time of 4:59.83.

To finish off the day, the Bears' 4x400-meter relay team featuring Major, Leary, junior Julie Glavin (Weymouth, Mass.) and Andrews finished third with a final time of 4:31.81.

Several members of the BSU women's track & field team will run on Friday night at the Silfen Invitational Elite Distance held at Connecticut College. The majority of the team will compete next Saturday at the Jerry Gravel Classic hosted by Westfield State University.
