Women's Track & Field Places 3rd at MASCAC Indoor Championships

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's track & field team placed third at the 2020 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships held on Saturday at Smith College.

Bridgewater State amassed 160 team points as the Bears were by edged Worcester State University (167 pts.) in the MASCAC standings. Westfield State University (197 pts.) won the conference championship, while Fitchburg State University (55 pts.) finished fourth.

Three Bears captured MASCAC individual titles, while junior Jamelah Foster (Fall River, Mass.) and sophomore Camille Hanna (Milton, VT.) set new school records in the weight throw and pole vault, respectively.

Senior Jessica Haywood (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was the first to cross the finish line in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:29.19. Freshman Samila Adilas (Randolph, Mass.) took the top spot in the 60-meter hurdles with a career-best time of 9.43 seconds.

Freshman Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' individual conference champions. Peterson won the high jump title clearing a height of five feet, 1.5 inches (1.56m).

Foster broke her previous school record in the weight throw with a toss of 50 feet, 8.25 inches (15.45m). Foster, who placed second in the event, eclipsed her previous mark of 50 feet, seven inches (15.42m) set just last weekend.

Hanna recorded a mark of eight feet, 2.5 inches (2.50m) in the pole vault as she broke Taylor Robitaille's BSU indoor record of eight feet, 0.5 inches (2.45m) set in 2011. Hanna tied for second in the event.

Freshman Lindsey Golden (Mansfield, Mass.) took second in high jump with a leap of four feet, 11.5 inches (1.51m), while classmate Julie Glavin (Weymouth, Mass.) placed second in the 1,000-meter run with a season-best time of 3:11.97. Junior Ashley Garvey (Woburn, Mass.) added a second-place performance in the shot put (34'3.5"/10.45m).

Junior Juliana Martin (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 47 feet, 7.25 inches (14.51m).

The foursome of freshman Jailene Escalera (Rockland, Mass.), sophomore Cassie Brown (Augusta, Maine), freshman Hailey Kilroy (Natick, Mass.) and senior Rachael Flynn (North Easton, Mass.) placed second in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:51.25.

The Bears' 4x800-meter relay squad featuring Glavin, fellow rookie Mary Viera (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomores Megan Leary (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Makenzie Kennedy (North Providence, R.I.) placed second in the event with a time of 10:31.39.

Leary was also third in the 1,000-meter run (3:17.80), while senior Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) placed third in both the mile (5:16.72) and 3,000-meter run (10:29.60). Madden's time in the mile marked a career-best.

Freshman Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) finished third in the 60-meter hurdles (10.33), and senior Holly DeCourcey (Billerica, Mass.) added a third-place showing in the triple jump (34'7.5"/10.55m).

Next weekend, several members of the BSU track and field teams will compete at the Bowdoin Invitational.
