Women's Track & Field Competes at RIC Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bridgewater State University women's track & field team competed at the non-scoring RIC Invitational held on Saturday at Providence Career & Technical High School.

Senior Kira Gilbreath (West Haven, Utah) won the meet title in the shot put with a toss of 41 feet, 2.25 inches (12.55m) as she qualified for both the Division III New England Championships and NEICAAA Championships in the event. Gilbreath also finished sixth in the weight throw with a DIII New Englands qualifying heave of 43 feet, 9.75 inches (13.35m).

Senior Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) captured top honors in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 9.11 seconds. Andrews hit the qualifying time for the DIII New Englands and the NEICAAA Championships for the second straight meet.

Senior Molly McNamara (Hull, Mass.) placed second and qualified the DIII New Englands in the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 4.75 inches (10.48m).

Junior Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) placed second in the one-mile run with a time of 5:25.29, while senior Madeline McNamara (Hull, Mass.) finished third in the finals of the 60-meter dash (8.19) and senior Patricia Healion (Medford, Mass.) placed third in the high jump (4'11"/1.50m).

The Bears are off until after the New Year when they compete at the Tufts Invitational on Saturday, January 12th.
