Three Bears Garner USTFCCCA All-New England Honors

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The United State Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the All-New England honorees for the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field season.

To be named All-New England, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-five of an individual event in the region according to final Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) data or be part of a top-three relay team.

For the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team, seniors Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.), and sophomore Ellie Bucknell (New Bedford, Mass.) all earned All-New England honors. Bennett in the shot put, Richner in both the high jump and the heptathlon, and Bucknell in the javelin.

Bennett ranks fourth in the New England in the shot put (42'11.75"/13.10m), while Richner is fourth in the high jump (5'6.75"/1.69m) and fifth in the heptathlon (4,276 pts.). Bucknell checks in with the second best toss in the javelin (138'6"/42.23m).

Bennett, who was injured for most of the season, posted her top distance (and school record) in the shot put at the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational.

Richner recorded both of her marks, including a BSU record-tying measurement in high jump, while competing in the heptathlon at the Division III New England Championships.

Bucknell's best javelin throw came at the NEICAAA Championships.

Richner and Bucknell will be competing at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships later this week at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
