Richner Places 12th in High Jump at NCAA Championships

GENEVA, Ohio -- Bridgewater State University senior Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) placed 12th in the high jump at the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Richner recorded a height of five feet, 5.25 inches (1.66 meters) as she cleared the mark on her third attempt. Richner cleared each of the first three heights (1.52m, 1.57m, 1.62m) on her first attempt.

Richner was making her third straight appearance at an NCAA Track & Field championship meet. She qualified for the indoor championships this past March and earned All-American honors at outdoor championships in May of 2016.

Freshman Emma Egan of Williams College captured the Division III national title in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 9.25 inches (1.76 meters).

On Thursday, BSU sophomore Ellie Bucknell (New Bedford, Mass.) finished 11th in the javelin with a toss of 132 feet, 11 inches (40.51 meters).
