Richner Eclipses Own High Jump Mark at Season-Opening UMass Boston Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) broke her own school indoor record in the high jump at the season-opening UMass Boston Invitational on Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Richner won the high jump with a meet-record leap of five feet, seven inches (1.70 meters). She eclipsed her previous school indoor standard of five feet, six inches set last season at the NEICAAA Championships.

Sophomore Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) captured the individual title in the 500-meter run (1:20.72) and placed second in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles (9.17). She also ran a leg on the Bears' winning 4x400-meter relay (4:07.30) along with seniors Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) and Sabrina Rizzo (Peabody, Mass.) and freshman Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.)

Miller also placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.50.

Senior Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed fourth in the shot put (39'4"/11.99m), while senior Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) and senior Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) finished third (45'0.50"/13.73m) and fifth (44'4.25"/13.52m), respectively, in the weight throw.

The Bears are off until Saturday, January 14th when they compete at the Tufts Invitational.
