Women's Track & Field Captures UMD Corsair Classic Title

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team captured the team title at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic on Saturday.

The Bears notched 143 team points to outdistance the field. Host UMass finished second with 100 points, while Rhode Island College rounded out the top three with 74 points.

Five Bears garnered individual titles at the meet.

Senior Krysta Zbikowski (Ashburnham, Mass.) was the first to cross the line in the 10,000-meter run as she posted a time of 40:50.38, and junior Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.) was the top performer in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.61 seconds.

Sophomore Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) captured top honors in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 0.25 inches (1.53 meters), while junior Juliana Keene (Norton, Mass.) tossed the javelin a meet-best 111 feet, nine inches (34.06 meters) and sophomore Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished first in the shot put with a mark of 37 feet, 2.25 inches (11.33 meters).

BSU's relay squad of Krevosky, Richner and sophomores Traci Perry (MIddleboro, Mass.) and Alexa Hambly (Middleboro, Mass.) placed first in the 4x100 with a time of 52.64 seconds.

Richner also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (16.05) while freshman Tori O"Dea (South Dennis, Mass.) and Kristina Harding (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished third (16.85) and fifth (17.27), respectively.

Krevosky also placed third in the long jump with a mark of 33 feet, one inch (10.08 meters).

Sophomore Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) finished second behind Richner in the high jump with a leap of four feet, 8.25 inches (1.43 meters), while junior Breana Evans (Saugus, Mass.) placed fourth (4'8.25"/1.43m).

Sophomore Kaitlin Kummer (North Attleboro, Mass.) was second in the discus throw with a toss of 103 feet, three inches (31.48 meters).  Freshman teammate Michelle Stefanowicz (South Hadley, Mass.) finished fourth in the event with a mark of 100 feet, 11 inches (30.77 meters).

Also placing in the top five for the Bears were senior Ashley Aldred (Saugus, Mass.) and Lane in the 400-meter dash. Aldred placed third (1:04.99) and Lane fifth (1:06.44). Freshman Shauntel Farland (Burlington, Mass.) and junior Theresa Connolly (North Andover, Mass.) finished fourth (2:31.30) and fifth (2:32.43), respectively, in the 800-meter run, while junior Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:41.92.

The Bears' 4x400-meter relay team of Connolly, Farland, junior Samantha Pinkham (Hingham, Mass.) and sophomore Sabrina Rizzo (Peabody, Mass.) finished fourth (4:30.88) in the event.

Next weekend, the BSU track & field teams compete at the Westfield State Invitational.
