Women's Track & Field Places Third at Tufts Snowflake Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team placed third at the season-opening Tufts Snowflake Classic on Saturday.

The Bears finished third in the team standings with 89 points trailing only Northeastern University (96 pts.) and meet winner and host Tufts University (149 pts.).

Junior Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.) and sophomore Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) were the Bears top placewinners at the meet. Krevosky placed first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.81 seconds, while Richner captured top honors in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 2.25 inches (1.58 meters).

Senior Krysta Zbikowski (Ashburnham, Mass.) and junior Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) garnered a pair of second place finishes. Zbikowski finished second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:17.62, while Poto placed second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 39:59.77. Poto had the top collegiate time in the event as the winner ran unattached.

Grad student Jacey Peers (Elmsford, N.Y.) and juniors Emily Ducharme (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Rachel Ducharme (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished fourth (41:03.92), sixth (41:24.33) and eighth (41:38.50), respectively, in the 10,000 as the Bears accrued 22 out of a possible 39 team points in the event.

Senior Ashley Aldred (Saugus, Mass.) placed third in 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.23, while sophomore Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) finished right behind with a time of  1:02.39.

Sophomore Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) and Aldred finished fifth (27.93) and sixth (28.00), respectively, in the 200-meter dash. Perry also placed eighth in the 100-meter dash (13.28).

Freshman Tori O'Dea (South Dennis, Mass.) placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:12.94, while junior Breana Evans (Saugus, Mass.) finished sixth in the high jump (4'10.25"/1.48 meters) and eighth in the triple jump (30'2.25"/9.20m)

Junior Juliana Keene (Norton, Mass.) placed seventh in the javelin (97'11"/29.86m), while sophomore Sabrina Rizzo (Peabody, Mass.) was eighth in the 800-meter run (2:35.81) and junior Theresa Connolly (North Andover, Mass.) finished eighth in the 1,500-meter run (5:03.94).

Next weekend, the Bears compete at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.

Notes: Poto is currently ranked 22nd in all of Division III in the 10,000.
