Women's Track & Field Places 2nd at Jerry Gravel Classic

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Five student-athletes earned individual wins to lead the Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track & field team at the Jerry Gravel Classic on Saturday hosted by Westfield State University.

The Bears places second out of four teams at the meet with 178 points. The Host Owls won the meet title with 196 points.

Sophomore Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed first in the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 7.5 inches (12.38 meters), while senior Krysta Zbikowski (Ashburnham, Mass.) captured top honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:07.10.

Junior Juliana Keene (Norton, Mass.) finished first in the javelin with a toss of 105 feet, ten inches (32.25 meters), and sophomore Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) posted the top mark in the high jump clearing the bar at five feet, 0.25 inches (1.53 meters).

Junior Rachel Ducharme (North Attleboro, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' individual event winners as she placed first in the 5.000-meter run with a time of 19:23.32.

Next weekend, the BSU track & field teams will compete at the 9th Annual ECSU Invitational as well as the Larry Ellis Invitational.
