BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Freshman Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) and senior Karen Anselmi (Franklin, Mass.) each won events to lead the Bridgewater State University women’s outdoor track and field team at the season-opening BSU Bears Invitational on Saturday at Swenson Field.

Perry placed first in both the 200-meter dash (27.45) and the 100-meter dash (13.53), while Anselmi captured top honors in the 400-meter dash (1:01.65) and also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash (28.05).

Freshman Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) placed second in the high jump (4’11”), while sophomore Tshani Williams-Core (Dorchester, Mass.) finished second in the triple jump (32’4.75”).

Freshman Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed second in the shot put (38’1.5”) and qualified for both the Division III New England Championships and ECAC Division III Championships in the event.  Classmate Veronica Wiggins (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished third in the shot put (36’6.75”) and qualified for DIII New Englands.

Senior Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass.) finished fourth in the discus (113’10”) and also qualified for the DIII New Englands in the event.  Chiasson also placed third in the hammer throw (128’).

Freshman Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) placed fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:03.87) and seventh in both the 200-meter dash (28.28) and high jump (4’7”).

Sophomore Juliana Keene (Norton, Mass.) recorded a sixth-place finish in the javelin (108’4”) and qualified for DIII New Englands.

Freshman Sara McNiff (Lowell, Mass.) placed sixth in the triple jump (27’1”) while senior Jacey Peers (Elmsford, N.Y.) and sophomore Rachel Ducharme (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished sixth (43:30.94) and seventh (43:36.73), respectively in the 10,000-meter run.

Former Bears Sarah Lagasse and Molly Rouillard did well in their respective events running unattached.  Lagasse placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:09.88) while Rouillard finished second in the 10,000-meter run (37:37.51).

Next week, the BSU outdoor track & field teams will compete at the Snowflake Classic hosted by Tufts University.
