Women's Track & Field Places Third at Eric Loeschner Meet

FITCHBURG, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's track & field team finished third at the Eric Loeschner Meet hosted by Fitchburg State University on Saturday.

The Bears registered 131 points to finish behind Wheaton College (158 pts.) and WPI (222 pts.) in the team standings.

Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass.) placed first in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 2.25 inches (5.26 meters).  Krevosky qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships in the event.  She also grabbed top honors in the triple jump (34'8.5"/10.58m).

Veronica Wiggins (Pawtucket, R.I.) captured first place in the shot put with a toss of 37 feet, 6.5 inches (11.44 meters), while Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass.) was the top performer in the hammer throw with a mark of 142 feet, two inches (43.33 meters).  Chiasson also finished second in the discus (104'2"/31.76m), while Wiggins placed fourth in the hammer (127'1"/38.75m).

Brittany Reed (Plymouth, Mass.) and Natalya Riberdy (Feeding Hills, Mass.) finished second (44.25) and third (46.55), respectively, in the 10,000-meter run, while the Bears' 4x100-meter relay squad of Alexa Hambly (Middleboro, Mass.), Michelle Atkins (Chelsea, Mass.), Caitlin DiLorenzo (Seekonk, Mass.) and Laura McHugh (Mansfield, Mass.) placed second (51.20).  Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, R.I.) added a third-place showing in the javelin (97'9"/29.79m).

Some members of the BSU women's track & field team competed at the Larry Ellis Invitational hosted by Princeton University. The meet featured almost exclusively Division I and unaffiliated competitors as well as some Division II and Division III participants.

Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) tied for 15th in the high jump with a leap of five feet, one inch (1.55 meters).  Karen Anselmi (Franklin, Mass.), Becca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass.), Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) and Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.) placed 15th in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:05.40.  Perry also finished 40th in the 200-meter dash (26.55).

The outdoor schedule resumes for the Bears on Saturday when they compete at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships hosted by UMass Dartmouth.
