Women's Track & Field Places Third at UMD Corsair Classic

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track and field team placed third among 21 teams at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic on Saturday.

The Bears posted a team score of 84 points to finish behind meet champion Colby College (139 pts.) and MASCAC rival Worcester State University (116 pts.).

Traci Perry paced the Bears as she placed first in the 200-meter dash (26.31) and second in the 100-meter dash (12.84).

Perry ran a leg on BSU's winning 4x400-meter relay squad (4:08.28) along with Karen Anselmi, Becca Geldmacher and Amanda Lane. She also competed on the Bears' third place 4x100-meter relay squad (50.52) along with Michelle Atkins, Caitlin DiLorenzo and Sydney Bennett.

Anselmi added a fourth place showing in the 400-meter dash (1:01.23), while Lane finished eighth in the 400 (1:02.35).

Danielle Poto was the third runner to cross the line in the 10,000-meter run (41:05.30).

Theresa Connolly finished seventh in the 800-meter run (2:31.81), while Ariele Krevosky place seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (16.29) and Laura McHugh eighth in the 100-meter dash (13.11) to round out the Bears' top track placewinners.

Samantha Richner highlighted BSU's field events as she captured top honors in the high jump (5'2.25"/1.58m).

Melissa Chiasson grabbed third place in the hammer throw (140'1"/42.71m), while Krevosky finished fourth in the triple jump (33'10.75"/10.33m).

Juliana Keene placed fifth in the javelin (113'11"/34.73m) while Bennett and Veronica Wiggins finished sixth (36'2.25"/11.03m) and seventh (34'11.25"/10.65m), respectively, in the shot put.

Next Friday, the Bears compete at the Eastern Invitational hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University.

Notes: Richner is currently ranked 20th in all of Division III in the high jump, while Chiasson is 49th in the hammer.  The Bears 4x400 relay squad presently ranks 47th overall.
