Women's Outdoor Track & Field Places Third at MASCAC Championships

BRIDGEWATER, Mass.  – The Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track and field team competed at the MASCAC/New England Alliance Championships on Saturday at Swenson Field.  The Bears placed third (109 pts.) in the MASCAC standings and eighth (46.5 pts.) in the Alliance standings.

Molly Rouillard (Dartmouth, Mass) captured both the MASCAC and Alliance titles in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:40.07.  Ashley Aldred (Saugus, Mass.) was the only other event winner for the Bears as she earned a MASCAC individual championship in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.63 seconds.  Aldred also qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships in the event.

Ariele Krevosky (Oxford, Mass) placed in all four events that she competed in.  She finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.13), fourth in the high jump (4'11"/1.50m), and third in both the long jump (16'6.5"/5.04m) and triple jump (34'1.5"/10.40m).

Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass.) placed in the shot put, discus, and the hammer throw. She finished second in the hammer throw (139'3"/42.44m) , fifth in the discus (111'11"/34.11m) and sixth in the shot put (32'7.75"/9.95m).

Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) placed second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:02.14, while Krysta Zbikowski (Ashburnham, Mass.) placed fourth with a time of 19:29.56.

Taylor Robitaille (Ludlow, Mass.) added a third place showing in the pole vault with a vault of seven feet, 6.50 inches (2.30 meters), while Juliana Keene (Norton, Mass.) finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 108 feet, nine inches (33.14 meters).

Breana Evans (Saugus, Mass.) and Becca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass.) tied for fourth and qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the high jump with a leap of four feet, 11 inches (1.50 meters).

The 4x100 relay team of Michelle Atkins (Chelsea, Mass.), Aldred, Caitlin DiLorenzo (Seekonk, Mass.), and Laura McHugh (Mansfield, Mass.) placed third and ran a time of 49.82 seconds. The foursome qualified for the ECAC Division III Championships and broke the previous school record of 49.97 seconds set a year ago.  McHugh added a fifth place finish in the 200 (26.92) and a fourth place showing in the 400 (60.77).  DiLorenzo placed sixth in the 200 with a time of 27.41 seconds.

The 4x400 relay team of McHugh, Aldred, Atkins, and Geldmacher placed third with an ECAC qualifying time of 4:07.40.  The 4x800 team of Poto, Rouillard, Megan Cullinane (Lunenburg, Mass.), and Theresa Connolly (North Andover, Mass.) placed second with a time of 10:09.02, also qualifying for the ECAC Championships.

In upcoming action, qualifying members of the BSU women's outdoor track and field team will travel up to Colby College for the Division III New England Championships.

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. --  Worcester State University successfully defended its title at the 2013 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon, as the Lancers topped runner-up Westfield State University by 12 points to capture the crown at Bridgewater State University's Ed Swenson Track.

Worcester State amassed 222 points to take the title for the second straight season and third time in four years in topping Westfield State's team score of 210 points.  Bridgewater State was next in third place with 109 points, while Fitchburg State University (86 points) and the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (no team score) rounded out the scoring in this year's championship.

 Worcester State took 10 individual titles on the afternoon, led by senior Briana Wise (Worcester, Mass.), who claimed crowns in both the 100 (12.44) and 200 meters (25.44).  Sophomore Alyssa Jasper (Rockland, Mass.) set a conference record in taking the javelin for the Lancers with a mark of 44.91 meters, while senior Erin Donohue (Saugus, Mass.) and juniors Christy Deininger (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Jenna Pickard (Peabody, Mass.) were also respective winners in the 5,000 meters (18:41.84), 100 meter hurdles (14.90) and 10,000 meters (43:01.67).  Sophomores Alexandria McMahon (East Longmeadow, Mass.), Cayla Leinonen (Spencer, Mass.) and Amanda Caldarone (Danvers, Mass.), along with freshman Angelique Nurse (Auburn, Mass.), also captured respective individual conference titles for Worcester State in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.59), high jump (1.55 meters), long jump (5.29 meters) and triple jump (10.88 meters), while the Lancers also took top honors in the 4 x 100 meter relay (48.30).

Freshman Naloti Palma (Westboro, Mass.) was a double winner for Westfield State on the afternoon, as she set a conference record in the shot put (12.39 meters) while also taking top honors in the discus (38.42 meters).  Senior Rachael Cardin (Sutton, Mass.) and junior Amy Auclair (Marlboro, Mass.) set new marks in the 800 meters (2:19.06) and pole vault (3.25 meters) for the Owls, who also received first place performances from junior Alex Livingston (Mashpee, Mass.) and sophomore Olivia Marshall (North Andover, Mass.) in the hammer throw (43.19 meters) and 3,000 meter steeplechase (12:18.02).  Westfield State also took top honors in both the 4 x 400 (4:03.62) and 4 x 800 (10:08.92) meter relays.

Senior Molly Rouillard (Dartmouth, Mass.) set the final conference record of the day for host Bridgewater State in the 1,500 meters (4:40.07), while sophomore Ashley Aldred (Saugus, Mass.) was also a winner in the 400 meters (59.63) for the Bears.
