Robitaille Highlights Bears' All-New England Performers

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --- Highlighted by junior Carrie Robitaille, the Bridgewater State University women's track and field team tied for 16th place at the Division III New England Championships hosted by MIT.

The Bears registered a team score of eight points and had three All-New England performances.  MIT captured the New England title with a total of 141.5 points.

Robitaille, who hails from Ludlow, Massachusetts, provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships and captured All-New England honors in the heptathlon as she posted a fifth place finish with a score of 4,119 points.

In the heptathlon events, Robitaille placed second in the long jump (16'10.75"), third in the 100-meter hurdles (16.08 seconds) and tied for fourth in the high jump (4'11.00").  She also finished sixth in both the 200-meter dash (27.14 seconds) and 800-meter run (2:31.23), ninth in the javelin (87'2.00") and 14th in the shot put (26'5.00").

The Bears' 4 x 800-meter relay team of senior Jessica Eidinger (Sutton, Mass.), junior Sarah Lagasse (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Melissa Harris (Uxbridge, Mass.), and sophomore Megan Cullinane (Lunenburg, Mass.) earned All-New England honors with a seventh place finish and also broke a 28-year old school record.  They posted a time of 9:43.27 which eclipsed the 1983 mark of 9:44.90 set by Lauren Doughty, Carol Jackson, Maureen Mahoney and BSU Hall of Famer, Cindy Lindh.

Junior Molly Rouillard (Dartmouth, Mass.) and freshmen Malgorzata Czerwonka (Billerica, Mass.), Becca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass.) and Karen Anselmi (Franklin, Mass.) posted an All-New England performance in the 4 x 400 as they ran a season-best time of 4:06.93.  The relay squad finished in seventh place and bettered their qualifying time for the ECAC Division III Championships.
