Robitaille Leads Women's Track at New England DIII Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Carrie Robitaille (Ludlow, Mass.) earned All-New England honors in the pentathlon to lead the Bears at the New England Division III Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships held at MIT.

Robitaille registered a BSU indoor record score of 2,801 points to finish in eighth place in the event.  She eclipsed her previous school mark of 2,751 points set earlier this season at the MIT Alumnae Meet.

In the pentathlon events, Robitaille placed third in the long jump (16'1.75"), seventh in the 800-meter run (2:33.92), 11th in the 55-meter hurdles (9.28 seconds) and she tied for 12th in the high jump (4'8.75") and tied for 17th in the shot put (23'6.75").

Classmate Sarah Lagasse (Rehoboth, Mass.) just missed finishing out of the top eighth in the 1,000-meter run as she placed ninth with a time of 3:06.10.  Fellow junior Molly Rouillard (Dartmouth, Mass.) crossed the finish line 10th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.76. 

Senior Brittany Page (Winthrop, Mass.) competed in the weight throw and posted a distance of 42 feet, 4.75 inches (12.92 meters) which was good for 12th place. 

Robitaille also tied for 16th in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, six inches (10.21 meters).

The Bears' 4 x 800 relay team of Lagasse, Rouillard, senior Jessica Eidinger (Sutton, Mass.) and junior Melissa Harris (Uxbridge, Mass.) placed 12th in the event with a time of 10:07.75.

Junior Colleen Davis (Mansfield, Mass.), sophomore Taylor Smith (Cumberland, R.I.) and freshmen Karen Anselmi (Franklin, Mass.) and Rebecca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass.) grabbed 13th place in the 4 x 200 relay (1:52.34).

Bridgewater's 4 x 400 relay squad of Robitaille, Anselmi, Geldmacher and freshman Malgorzata Czerwonka (Billerica, Mass.) finished in 14th place (4:18.22). 

In the team standings, Bridgewater placed 22nd overall with Robitaille tallying the Bears' lone point.  Williams College won the meet with 141 points followed by host MIT (137 pts.) and Tufts University (78 pts.).
