DEDHAM, Mass. -- Sophomore
Sarah Lagasse set a new school record as the
Bridgewater State College outdoor track and field teams opened the
2010 season at the Husky Spring Open at Northeastern University's
Solomon Track in Dedham.
Lagasse, who hails from Rehoboth, Massachusetts,
eclipsed the women's 3000-meter steeplechase mark as she won the
event with a time of 12:12.34. Lagasse broke the previous
BSC standard of 13:11.64 set by Amy
Walls in 2003.
Along with Lagasse's meet winning performance for
the BSC women's team, sophomores Kerry Mullane
(Holbrook, MA) placed fourth in the javelin (120 feet) while fellow
sophomore Carrie Robitaille (Ludlow,
MA) finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.88
seconds). Freshman Taylor Smith
(Cumberland, RI) posted a seventh place showing in the triple jump
with a distance of 30 feet 9.75 inches.
Other top place-winners for the BSC men's team
were seniors Kevin White (Swansea, MA) in the
110-meter hurdles (16.22 seconds) and Nick Ferrara
(Swansea, MA) in the high jump (6'0") as they both
finished fourth in their respective events.
Freshman Mohammed Malik (West
Bridgewater, MA) grabbed seventh place in the triple jump
(40'6.75") and eighth in the long jump (19'8.75"). The Bears
4 x 400 relay team consisting of White, Malik, junior Chris
Dagostino (Littleton, MA) and freshman Matt
Perreault (Lunenburg, MA) posted a fifth place finish with
a time of 3:36.92.
