DEDHAM, Mass. -- Sophomore Sarah Lagasse set a new school record as the Bridgewater State College outdoor track and field teams opened the 2010 season at the Husky Spring Open at Northeastern University's Solomon Track in Dedham.

Lagasse, who hails from Rehoboth, Massachusetts, eclipsed the women's 3000-meter steeplechase mark as she won the event with a time of 12:12.34.  Lagasse broke the previous BSC standard of 13:11.64 set by Amy Walls in 2003.

Other top place-winners for the BSC men's team were seniors Kevin White (Swansea, MA) in the 110-meter hurdles (16.22 seconds) and Nick Ferrara (Swansea, MA) in the high jump (6'0") as they both finished fourth in their respective events.
Freshman Mohammed Malik (West Bridgewater, MA) grabbed seventh place in the triple jump (40'6.75") and eighth in the long jump (19'8.75").  The Bears 4 x 400 relay team consisting of White, Malik, junior Chris Dagostino (Littleton, MA) and freshman Matt Perreault (Lunenburg, MA) posted a fifth place finish with a time of 3:36.92.
