Track Teams Open Indoor Season at Northeastern’s Jay Carissela Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College indoor track and field teams received some outstanding individual performances at the season-opening Jay Carissela Track & Field Invitational hosted by Northeastern University on Saturday.

On the men's side, freshman Felix Mensah had quite the collegiate debut for the Bears as he set the school indoor record in the triple jump with a leap of 42 feet 11.5 inches.  Mensah, who placed fifth in the event, eclipsed Matt Deininger's 2006 mark of 42 feet 8 inches.

The Lowell, Massachusetts native also finished in fourth place in the 55-meter dash (6.63 seconds) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (22.86 seconds).

Also highlighting the men's meet was the performance of senior co-captain Kevin White (Swansea, MA) in the 55-meter hurdles.  White advanced to the finals and placed sixth overall with an outstanding time of 8.24 seconds.

On the women's side, sophomore co-captain Carrie Robitaille (Ludlow, MA) placed 17th in the 55-meter hurdles as she posted a time of 9.39 seconds.  Robitaille also placed 11th in the triple jump (32'5.5") and ran a leg on the Bears' 4 x 400 relay team which finished 12th with a time of 4:17.71.

Sophomore Co Davis (Mansfield, MA) and freshmen Kylie Almeida (Somerset, MA) and Taylor Smith (Cumberland, RI) competed on the 4 x 400 relay squad along with Robitaille.  Smith also placed 12th in the triple jump with a distance of 31 feet 10 inches.

Also highlighting the women's meet were sophomore Sarah Lagasse (Rehoboth, MA) and junior co-captain Jessica Eidinger (Sutton, MA) in the 1,000-meter run.  The duo finished 11th and 12th respectively in the event with Lagasse crossing the finish line in 3:13.81 and Eidinger next across at 3:15.31.
