Women's Indoor Track Competes at MASCAC/Alliance Meet

GORHAM, Maine -- The Bridgewater State College Bears competed at the 2010 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday. This event was also a New England Alliance championship meet.

The BSC women's team finished in third place in the MASCAC with 92 team points.  Ahead of the Bears was Westfield State with 172 points, and the winner of the meet, Worcester State, with 190 points.  The Bears placed seventh in the New England Alliance standings with 48 points as Southern Maine won the Alliance championship with 154 points.

Sophomore Colleen Davis (Mansfield, MA) set a MASCAC record and won the conference title in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:41.24. Fellow sophomore Sarah Lagasse (Rehoboth, MA) captured the MASCAC championship in both the 800-meter run (2:28.92) and the 3,000-meter run (11:12.92).

Bridgewater also grabbed MASCAC championships in two relay events.  The Bears' 4x400 team consisting of Davis, Lagasse, sophomore Carrie Robitaille (Ludlow, MA) and freshman Kylie Almeida (Somerset, MA) set a MASCAC meet record with a time of 4:16.24. The 4x800 team consisting of Robitaille and juniors Brittany Robinson (Gardner, MA), Jessica Eidinger (Sutton, MA) and Carissa Penney (Gardner, MA), also set a MASCAC record with a time of 10:22.73. The 4x800 relay performance was also BSC's only New England Alliance victory of the day.

Almeida also placed second in the 600-meter run (1:47.74), while Robitaille scored in the 55-meter hurdles (9.27) with a fourth place showing.  Eidinger got fourth in the mile (5:27.30) and third in the 1,000 (3:17.34).
