Taylor Smith Breaks Pair of BSC School Marks at Wheaton Invitational

NORTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College women's indoor track and field team placed tenth at the Wheaton College Invitational on Saturday.

Freshman Taylor Smith (Cumberland, RI) set the BSC indoor record in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.73 seconds.  Smith, who placed 11th in the event, broke Kristin Neville's 2003 mark of 7.83 seconds. 

Smith also ran a leg on the Bears' record-breaking distance medley relay squad which posted a time of 13:19.17 to finish in fifth place at the meet.  Sophomore Sarah Lagasse (Rehoboth, MA), junior Jessica Eidinger (Sutton, MA) and sophomore Carrie Robitaille (Ludlow, MA) joined Smith on the relay.  The previous BSC mark in the distance medley relay was 13:24.62 set by Eidinger, Amanda Hauswirth, Carissa Penney and Nicole Mauro in 2008.

Eidinger also placed 14th out of 41 competitors in the 800-meter run (2:32.03).

The Bears will compete in the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University on Friday afternoon.  The meet will get underway at 2:00 PM.
