Nicole Mauro Places 11th at NCAA Indoor Track Championships

ADA, Ohio -- Bridgewater State College senior distance runner Nicole Mauro placed 11th in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University.

Mauro, who also advanced to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in the fall, posted a time of 18:08.90 to finish 11th out of 12 competitors.  Jennifer Adams, a senior out of Keene State College, won the event with a fieldhouse record time of 16:58.71.

A native of Mashpee, Massachusetts, Mauro registered her qualifying time at the ECAC Division III Championships last weekend at Harvard University as she broke the BSC school record in the 5,000 for the fourth time this season.

Mauro has been impressive throughout the indoor track season as she has broken or helped to break a total of 10 school records during the 11 meets that the Bears competed in. Along with the 5,000-meter run, Mauro has eclipsed the school marks in the 3,000 (twice), the one mile run (once), the 4 x 800 medley relay (twice), and the distance medley relay (twice).

This past November, Mauro competed in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship at St. Olaf College in Minnesota as she placed 135th in a field of 280 runners.
