Mackenzie Silveira Named Little East Women's Tennis Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University graduate student Mackenzie Silveira has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.

Silveira went 2-0 in second singles competition last week and teamed with junior Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) for a 2-0 mark in first flight doubles play as the Bears defeated Little East rival Western Connecticut State University as well as non-conference foe Suffolk University.

Silveira battled back from a set down to earn a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 decision over her second flight singles opponent and teamed with Von Ruden for an 8-6 victory at #1 doubles as the Bears held off WestConn, 5-4. The Middletown, Rhode Island native also posted a 6-3, 6-4 straight set win at second singles and paired with Von Ruden for an 8-5 triumph at first doubles in the Bears' 7-2 triumph over Suffolk.

In three seasons with the Bears, Silveira has produced an overall singles record of 11-10 including a 5-4 mark in the Little East. She is also 26-15 in doubles competition with a 14-4 record in conference play.

The LEC Player of the Week honor marks the first of Silveira's career.

The BSU women’s tennis team is currently 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in the Little East. The Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth this afternoon for a three o'clock Little East match with the Corsairs.
