BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The visiting Roger Williams University women's tennis team posted an 8-1 victory over Bridgewater State University on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Hawks improve to 6-2 on the season while the Bears slip to 3-2. RWU has won each of the last eight meetings of the two teams and is 13-4 versus Bridgewater State since 2005.

Roger Williams captured two of the three doubles matches and swept the six singles flights.

In doubles play, RWU grad. student Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) and junior Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) earned an 8-4 win at the top flight, while sophomore Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and freshman Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) teamed up for an 8-3 triumph at number three.

BSU senior Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) and junior Meghan Lotti (Stoneham, Mass.) held off a comeback bid at the second double flight to get the Bears on the board. Carter and Lotti edged the RWU tandem of senior Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) in a tie-breaker, 8-7 (7-4).

Cahoon (6-0, 6-2), Pecora (6-3, 6-1), McCarthy (6-0, 6-0) and Mancini (6-3, 6-2) all won in straight sets for the Hawks in singles play at the second, third, fourth and sixth flights, respectively.

Ferraro split the first two sets at number one singles, 6-1, 4-6, before outlasting BSU junior Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) in a super tie-breaker, 10-4.

Santoro dropped the first set at the fifth singles flight but bounced back to win in a super tie-breaker, 3-6, 6-3, 10-2.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday at noon weather permitting. The Bears travel to UMass Dartmouth to take on the Corsairs in a Little East Conference (LEC) matchup while the Hawks host Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Suffolk University.
