NEWPORT, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team placed fifth at the 36th Annual Newport Grass Court Doubles Tournament held at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
The Bears' Flight B tandem of senior Allison Carter (Raynham, Mass.) and junior Meghan Lotti (Stoneham, Mass.) went 1-3 on the afternoon with an 8-5 win over their opponents from Salve Regina University. Carter and Lotti also dropped a tought 8-7 decision to Roger Williams University. The match was decided in a 10-5 tie-breaker.
The Flight A pairing of junior Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) and graduate Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) had a pair of tough 8-6 setbacks to Roger Williams and Salve Regina, as did the Flight C team of sophomore Yasmine Queen (Waltham, Mass.) and freshman Samantha Bettencourt (Tiverton, R.I.).

The Bears travel to the University of Southern Maine on Saturday for a noontime Little East Conference (LEC) match with the Huskies.
