BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University sophomore Madeline Von Ruden has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Von Ruden went 2-0 in first singles competition last week and teamed with junior Abigail Ramer (Sherwood, Ore.) for a 2-0 mark in first flight doubles play as the Bears defeated Little East rival Castleton University as well as non-conference foe Suffolk University.
Von Ruden earned a 6-2, 6-0 straight set decision over her top flight singles opponent and teamed with Ramer for an 8-0 victory at #1 doubles as the Bears opened LEC play with a 9-0 triumph over Castleton. The Ashley Falls, Massachusetts native also posted a 6-2, 6-3 straight set win at number on singles and paired with Ramer for an 8-1 triumph at first doubles in the Bears' 9-0 triumph over Suffolk.
In two seasons with the Bears, Von Ruden has produced an overall singles record of 9-8 including a 5-3 mark in the Little East. She is also 11-8 in doubles competition including a 6-3 record in conference play.
The LEC Player of the Week honor marks the second of Von Ruden's career.
The BSU women’s tennis team is currently 2-1 on the young season and 1-0 in the Little East. The Bears travel to Roger Williams University on Thursday afternoon for a four o'clock match with the Hawks.
